Dating back to 1921!
The Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa was created in 1921 under the name “Polk Des Moines Taxpayers Association.” For approaching a century, it has served as a watchdog of local governments to assure transparency and good decision-making on matters of significant public importance.
In 2011, the Association expanded its geography to include Dallas and Warren Counties and was re-named the Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa. It adopted new by-laws and established a new Board consisting of several long-time members together with a cadre of newly involved top business executives who believe in the importance of the mission.
Membership is open to both businesses and individuals. Individuals who have previously served in public office or as public administrators are especially welcome because of their knowledge and understanding of how to be effective in the role of an independent third party.
