Des Moines’ new charter school

Overview:
In May 2021, two bills were passed and signed into law that affect the establishment and operations of new charter schools in Iowa. A charter school may be established by either a district school board’s founding group or an independent founding group.
Currently, the Iowa Department of Education has authorized five charter schools in the state. The latest one approved is Horizon Science Academy in Des Moines.
This TACI program provided an opportunity to learn more about this new STEM-based charter school opening its doors in August.
